Join Our Team: CLIA is hiring a staff attorney
The Center for Legal Immigration Assistance (CLIA) is seeking a dedicated Staff Attorney to join our legal team. This role provides a unique opportunity to help immigrants and refugees achieve their American Dream by delivering high-quality legal assistance.
Key Responsibilities:
Conduct client interviews (via phone or in person), investigate case facts, and perform legal research to determine appropriate legal services.
Provide legal advice, brief services, and case preparation for a range of immigration matters, including but not limited to U and T Visas, Adjustment of Status, and Citizenship/Naturalization applications.
Represent clients in immigration court on a case-by-case basis.
Assist clients, particularly survivors of crimes, with immigration paperwork.
Maintain accurate case files and documentation in CLIA’s case management system, including timekeeping and case notes.
Stay informed about available community resources for crime victims.
Collaborate with the Project Coordinator to implement the VOCA project.
Refer eligible clients to CLIA’s mental health therapists as part of our support services.
Supervise non-DOJ Accredited Representatives or attorneys assisting with client cases.
Work with DOJ Accredited Representatives, the Project Coordinator, and the Executive Director on grant reporting.
Qualifications:
Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
Admission to the bar or eligibility for bar admission.
Prior experience in immigration law or a related legal field is preferred.
Strong legal writing, research, analytical, and verbal communication skills.
Passion for public interest legal work and advocacy on behalf of immigrant communities.
Ability to work independently, manage multiple projects, and meet deadlines.
Experience working with diverse populations, including individuals in crisis, trauma, or emotionally sensitive situations, with professionalism and compassion.
Demonstrated commitment to CLIA’s mission and vision.
Public speaking, training, or community outreach experience is a plus.
Proficiency in a second language is preferred but not required.
Salary & Benefits:
Range of $60,000 - $70,000 based on experience.
