Success Story: Hakim
In August 2021, during the emergency evacuation of Afghanistan, Hakim Gul Abasin was forced to leave his wife and children behind. As an SIV recipient who worked for the U.S. government, Hakim faced extreme danger if he remained in Afghanistan.
Once safely in the U.S., Hakim worked tirelessly to build a new life while navigating the complex immigration system. When he finally received his green card, CLIA helped him take the next step: applying to bring his wife and children to safety.
In April 2025, nearly four years after their painful separation, Hakim and his family were finally reunited.
But that reunion was more than just a homecoming—it was an introduction. Hakim’s youngest son was born just weeks after the evacuation. That moment in April was the first time he had ever held his baby boy.
This is the kind of life-changing work your support makes possible.
