Success Story: Hasina

When Hasina Raqib arrived in the U.S. in 2021 with her three young children—then just 5, 2, and 1 years old—she was fleeing unimaginable turmoil. Evacuated by the U.S. military during the fall of the Afghanistan government, Hasina was granted humanitarian parole—but her husband, Ahmad Masud Raqib, was left behind.

Separated from her partner and sole support system, Hasina faced immense challenges. Her children, struggling without their father, began to experience health issues, and Hasina herself was dealing with serious mental health concerns. That’s when she found CLIA.

Our team helped Hasina apply for asylum and connected her with an in house therapist to support her healing. Once she received asylum, we immediately helped her file a petition for her husband in October 2023—and thanks to an expedited process, Ahmad arrived in the U.S. in March 2025. The family was finally reunited at the Lincoln airport, with tears and so much relief.

Your support made this possible.

This Give to Lincoln Day, help us continue reuniting families, protecting vulnerable immigrants, and providing the legal and emotional support they need to thrive. Your gift to CLIA can change lives — just like Hasina’s.
